Paul Galas graduated from Kunstakademie Dusseldorf in 2020 as a student of Tomma Abts after studying previously under Peter Doig and Siegfried Anzinger. Crucially influenced by the visual language of 20th century comic book culture, Galas draws from a wide range of historical and current references. His deceptively simple canvases are at once formalistic and emotionally resonant. They invoke nostalgia and innocence, only to quickly reveal a capacity to engage with the critical instincts of the viewer. Visual clarity as a means of communicating rich thought and feeling is a guiding principle of Galas' practice.
